Research Specialty
autonomic cardiovascular physiology, patient-oriented research

Clinical Research Description
Our group is broadly interested in understanding neural control of heart rate and blood pressure regulation, with a particular emphasis on the role of the autonomic nervous system in health and disease.

I focus primarily on the study of pathophysiology and novel treatments for Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)

The primary disorders of interest are Neurally Mediated (Reflex) Syncope (or fainting) and the Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (or Chronic Orthostatic Intolerance).

We use a whole patient model to study the pathophysiology of these disorders, as well as using a mechanistic approach to discover novel therapeutic approaches for these disorders.

We use numerous human physiology tools with continuous non-invasive blood pressure assessment, rebreathing cardiac output, tilt table tests, blood volume assessments and assessments of endothelial function to carry out our hypothesis driven studies.

Most of our research projects are funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Clinical Interests
My primary clinical interest is in patients with syncope (fainting) for unexplained reasons and patients with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).
