Research Keywords
Helicobacter pylori, virulence factors/genes, cag Pathogenicity Island, Cytokine gene polymorphisms, H. pylori-host cell interactions, Molecular Biology,Bacteria,Cancer,Genome,Microbiology,Protein Structure,Tyrosine phosphorylation

Research Specialty
Epidemiology of Helicobacter pylori infection in populations with high and low risk for gastric cancer; molecular characterization of virulence genes of H. pylori; CagA protein C-terminal variations; Pathogenesis of H. pylori infection

Clinical Research Description
Epidemiologic and molecular aspects of infection with Helicobacter pylori; genetic variations of Helicobacter pylori virulence factors such as cagA and vacA virulence genes as well as of hopQ, homA and homB genes producing outer membrane proteins responsible for H. pylori attachment to gastric mucosa; the associations of H. pylori virulence factors with histo-pathological changes of gastric mucosa and clinical outcomes of infection in areas for high and low risk for gastric cancer; detection of multiple genetic pro-inflammatory polymorphisms in cytokine genes ( IL-1I? gene and the IL-1 receptor-antagonist gene IL-1RN) which may affect/ increase the risk for development of gastric cancer.
