Clinical Interests
Dr. Shinar graduated from Stanford University in 1984 and received his M.D. from Columbia University in 1988. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Harvard University in 1993, and subsequently underwent fellowship training in Joint Replacement Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.

Following his fellowship training he performed complex joint replacements and other orthopaedic surgeries for six years as a private practitioner in Grosse Pointe, MI. During this time he headed the Joint Replacement program at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe (one of Michigan's leading joint replacement hospitals) where he developed the innovative and successful Spa Program. This program sought to optimize all factors in the delivery of joint replacement surgery, from the patient's hospital experience to the replacement's long-term outcome.

Dr. Shinar has lectured extensively on hip and knee replacement surgery, and is active in many local and national societies.
